I’m Gerry Eitner, president of Communities of Peace, and initiator of the first section for our “Mother Earth – Sacred Ground” quilt section. Although I’m not a quilter myself (you’ll see the rest of the story later), I was fortunate to find two collaborators to help bring this to fruition!
As “shepherdess” of our prior children’s peace quilt, I was privileged to experience some of the many “miracles” for which this project became known, even by the Wall St. Journal. With this background, I’m sure that this one will do even more.
These wonderful experiences are already beginning. The picture for this first section (on the home page) has been on my personal teaching website, www.gerryeitner.com for a number of years – for a reason. As a mystic since childhood, the Divine Feminine has played an important part in my own life for many years. I’ve received Divine guidance that this is my role – that of The Mother, holding the earth and its children, in my energy. Thus, I relate deeply to this picture.
Every one of you who participates in this project contributes to this Mother energy, each in your own way. The nurturing, caring, enfolding qualities of your love are greatly needed now.
With love,
Gerry Eitner

save the earth and green initiative, there is so much more to realize. We are not from the earth, we are the earth. Everything fits with everything else. We are interdependent and cannot thrive without out Everything else and vice versa.
That puts a new prospective on life.
The project theme and the creation of the first quilted unit for this event presented multiple
challenges as well as enjoyment, uppermost depicting Mother Earth's energy being received by the planet as well as all of its residents. Secondly, the depiction of that energy being projected from the earth back out into the universe. Being a quilter I felt that each element within the design needed to be tactile as well as visual. I have found that this project is so multifaceted that the creative process and execution are limited only by the person visualizing it.
I do hope and encourage everyone, from children to the seasoned persons who claim to be "not
creative enough"; to give second thoughts and let your imagination flow.
PARTICIPATE- let the light of your creativity show.

In the summer of 2021, I was at a breaking point in my life. I began searching for someone to work with to help guide me through rediscovering myself, then finding peace and joy. When I came across Gerry, I knew instantly that she was the one. It has completely changed my life.
At one point, Gerry mentioned that she was looking for someone to make a quilt for a project that she was working on. She showed me this beautiful picture of mother earth bent over the earth and lovingly placing her hands on the round globe. I knew instantly who would be able to tackle making a quilt of this magnitude – my grandmother Valentina Roth. She has been teaching women how to quilt for as long as I have known her.
This quilt represents much more than just fabric sown together in a pretty design. The making of this quilt has connected three beautiful women in a way that never would have happened. It’s an opening to bring forth more pieces of quilts, more conversations, deep connections, creation, contemplation of what mother earth means to each one of us. I look forward to seeing how this project grows!
Gerry had the honor of speaking at the World Trade Center in Washington, DC, in December 2023. She introduced the "Mother Earth - Sacred Ground" quilt project to the cultural and educational attaches of the various embassies in DC. Jan DuPlain, of DuPlain Global Enterprises, is a long time friend and collaborator, and is holding the first section.
