Mothers On a Mission (MOM) Quilt

A Little Background

This is the first section for our MOM (Mothers on a Mission) quilt. I hope you can join us by creating one of your own! Our goal (the Mission) is to bring forward the values and energy of the Mother into our world today. It’s what the world needs now – unconditional love, deep caring for all, nurturing, understanding and harmony. You’re also welcome to participate if you’re not a mother per se. We understand that the Mothering energy can be had by all; happen in many ways.

This project is modeled after our highly successful Children’s Cloth of Many Colors.  You can read more about it here

Directions

Directions for your section:

Each section of the MOM quilt is intended to represent the quilt section creator’s love of Nature in some way. As you illustrate this, please include your intention to take some kind of positive action related to this aspect that you love. Please also include the positive feeling of your desired result. This love and feeling gives your quilt piece a special creative power.

  • Each quilt section is 36”x36” or a yard square. The edges are finished and the section backed.
  • Each section is to illustrate the kind of world you want for your children (and/or the children of the world.” You can do this in pictures, words, however you wish. Keep the focus/energy on the solution, the positive. We like it if you include Nature in some way (Mother Nature) but it’s not mandatory. Caring for Nature is important in creating a sustainable world for our children!
  • As you create your section, infuse it with your love.
  • Send us (communitiesofpeace@gmail.com) a picture of your section, along with the story (300 words or less) of what you’ve illustrated and why. We’ll show it on our website (www.communitiesofpeace.org) creating the larger version there.
  • Invite others to join in. This spreads the energy, the creativity, the stories.
  • You may keep your own section, use it to invite others, donate it --- whatever you choose. Know that it’s intended to be a part of a larger movement to make a significant difference.

Here's My Own Personal Story

Here’s my own story of how this idea started.

I was the “shepherdess” of the highly successful Children’s Cloth of Many Colors for 19 years or so. The project started when our organization donated and dedicated a peace pole for the Pentagon. It still stands there in the prayer room. I received Divine guidance that day that the Children’s quilt project was mine to take on, because I was a Mother. I realized later that the direction came from Jesus’ mother Mary.

I experienced firsthand the growing power of this project. It was a different kind of power – never competitive, egotistical or dominating, but always positive, creative, encouraging the positive, catalyzing the possible, and connection among people. It was healthy. The adults who participated along with the children all sensed this energy and opened to it; reflecting it. I realized that it had to do with innocence, positive focus, and creativity.

It was a simple visual, and a simple message. The children’s wishes for peace on earth.

That simple visual, simple message then opened doors. Thousands of children from 32 countries participated. It was a first step toward many creative ventures. The first section hung in the US congress, related to a movement for a Dept. of Peace. Other sections were shown at the United Nations, foreign embassies, and at many venues. Communities of Peace were founded, incorporating this movement along the way. Major media paid attention --- Wall St. Journal, Washington Post, Washington Star, international and local media. Incidents of “miracles” were experienced. It attracted the interest and participation of major political and diplomatic people as well.

I began considering the idea of “What is the real Power?”  What energy and values are needed now, in our world today?  A major part of my consideration was placed on the feminine, and climate change.  The focus on our earth as “Mother Earth” and with the qualities of the feminine/mother (nurturing, sustaining, providing, sacrificing for her children) began emerging in my awareness.

I didn’t want to be coming from an aggressive, victim or a retaliator place with the male-female issue.  But I did indeed want to emphasize the qualities of the feminine, the Mother, and find a way to bring these energies forward now in a stronger way.  I felt that this movement could move us all to a next evolutionary stage – one that is increasingly being seen as needed.   You might call it Harmony.

My own section shows pictures of five generations of the women in our family – my two wonderful daughters, myself, my mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.   Nature herself is illustrated, in this case as the “brush” in which I played/had adventures as a child.  The words, Safe, Light, God, Love and Nature surround everything, values meant to create a special field of energy.

I do hope you’ll join this movement with your own section, your own story, and your own caring.

With love,

Gerry Fahey Eitner

We Can't Wait to Add Your Section to our Photos of the MOM Quilt!
